Terrace Dinners: Barbecue

This event series was planned as part of the Muharraq Nights program. The food was served in a communal dinner on a restored house in Muharraq.

Histories approaches Bahrain’s food history through its food sourcing, presenting dishes that each reflect a stage of history as understood through locally grown food, historic trade routes, colonial presences, and proposed futures of self-sufficient sourcing.

Barbecues shifts the lens from history to flavour and native plants. It spotlights several wildly-foraged plants or vegetables specific to the region, such as hummaidh and hasawi onions. It experiments with these flavors through familiar barbecue staples.

Hosted during Muharraq Nights, an initiative by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, and with support from the Higher Grounds team.
